Rugs and Kilims woven by the villagers and various tribes of Iran are distinguished by their fine wool, bright and elaborate colours, and specific, traditional patterns. Nomadic and small village weavers often produce flatweaves such as storage bags and Grain Sacks for everyday use. These wonderful pieces are often decorated with bolder and sometimes more coarse designs. Some enthusiasts consider these humble domestic items to be the most authentic and traditional weavings of Persia, as opposed to the artistic, pre-planned designs of the ubiquitous and famous Persian Carpets.

Vintage 1960's Persian Afshar Sirjan Sofreh
This striking Vintage 1960's piece from Iran, dates to the early part of the 20th century and remains in superb, original condition. The wool has beautifully matured over time, creating a rich spectrum of colors known as "Abrash." This unique effect arises from different batches of dyed wool aging at varying rates—a charm that cannot be replicated in modern rugs.
Sofreh, traditionally used by tribes for serving food within their tents, are typically small and square in both size and design. Measuring approx. 4 feet by 4 feet, this particular example is a flat-weave kilim, renowned for its durability and resilience. A true testament to Persian Tribal craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
